Heels & Hills Half Marathon Up Next!
My next race is on Sunday and it will be my 2nd half marathon! I'm not sure that I am fully prepared for it, but I guess it will have to be enough.
Casey & Positive A will be running it as well! Casey is picking my packet up at some point tomorrow. I think the bib will have my name on it. Pretty cool! I'll be sure to share a race re-cap at some point next week!
Oh, and I'll be posting my race re-cap of the Running Moms Rock 5k soon too!

Review & My First Giveaway
"OMG...they don't slip"
I contacted Sweaty Bands to see if I could do a review of their product. I was super excited when they promptly responded with a 'YES'!
I received the above package in the mail. It contained a thin and a thick Sweaty Band. I just love the colors on both! Check out their website to see all of the different types and colors of bands that you can buy!
I chose to wear the thin band b/c I have short hair. Popped it on my head, snapped a few pictures and went for a 6 mile run.
I love how tight fitting it was. It stayed exactly where I placed it on my head for the entire run.It has this velvety material on the inside that makes it non-slip.
Me, post 6 mile run with the band where I placed it!
The leopard print band is one that I purchased a few months ago. I was in love with it when I first got it. I've noticed over time though, that the elastic stretches out and the band becomes not so tight and ends up sliding on your head a little bit. It still does it's job, but I do have to re-place the band on my head every so often. Notice the length difference of the 2 bands. The leopard one has only been worn maybe 8 times. That's really my only complaint about the band.
I'll definitely be wearing my Sweaty Bands again!

Gone for a Run!
I went for a run a little while ago...it was just a quick 5k at the gym on a dreadmill ;-) I had intended to run a 10k, but got super bored and stopped after the 5k.
Brennan - 2 1/2 |
Colin - 4 1/2 |
I took a few pictures with my boys outside since it was such a beautiful day! Neither one of them wanted to take a picture with their mommy :-(

Next Race:
Next race is coming up on Saturday evening. I'm pretty excited about an evening race! It's a 5k, so it should be pretty easy. I'm thinking about trying to PR, but I'm not sure yet. Should be fun!
I'm running with Positive A & Casey. I think Positive A needs to start blog posting...
Yeah, I'm a running mom, and I rock...so why not run Running Moms Rock 5k? Yeah, that's what I thought, it all makes sense!

First Real Run...
Right before my 6 mile run |
Took me 1 hour 13 mins to run the 6 miles. I wish that I could run faster and that time didn't matter to me...but it does. Oh well. At least I'm out there running! The point of me starting was to become healthier...and I have.
I got to use one of my new Sweaty Bands during this run...but you will hear more about that in a post coming soon!
Just finished the run! |

I've got 13 more pounds that I would really like to get off!

Need a Change in Description
Well, today I noticed that in my 'description' section it says 'The novice runner on a journey to a half marathon.' I guess I need to change that, huh?
How AWESOME is that!
I'm thinking something like 'New half-marathoner craving another...'
Yeah, I've completely gone off the deep end! I am CRAVING to run more. I'm still sore from running my first one, but I want to run another one! I'm sooooo loving running! More than I ever thought I would.
So, I signed up for another half marathon! I'll be running Heels and Hills with my bestie, Casey and Positive A. It will be mine and A's 2nd half, and Casey's 1st. I think it will be a fun one! I'm looking forward to it!

March Total
29.1 - March 2011 Miles
127.14 - 2011 Total Miles
My miles goal for March was 85. I didn't even come close. March was a rough running month for me due to my hip pain. I ran my first half marathon in March, after resting my hip for most of the month. I'm hoping to do better next month!

Recovery
Let me just start off by saying that I am still on my high from the half marathon...BUT no one ever told me that the recovery was going to be this bad!
I am in sooo much pain, it's ridiculous! Sunday after the race both of my hips were hurting...it felt like, well, it felt like I had just run a half marathon! By Monday morning, I COULD NOT MOVE. AT ALL. I'm not kidding. My legs were so tight, they felt like they were in a constant state of contraction. I put my compression socks on right after the race, and made sure that I wore them all the way until Tuesday afternoon, so my calves didn't hurt too much...but, my thighs and quads are just TERRIBLE.
I was scheduled to work Monday night. I texted my charge nurse to beg her (literally BEG) to work triage that night. (At triage, I basically take vital signs and sit all night). I told her that I had run a half marathon the day before and I was in pain. There was no way that I was gonna be able to work the floor Monday night. She had compassion, and I was able to get somewhat of a break that night. I could barely move. Everyone was laughing at how slow I was moving. I got home Tuesday morning, and slept until the early afternoon. When I woke up, I was still tight and sore, but it was sooooo much better. Now it just feels like I've done a hard work out.
I know that RnR Dallas was a bit hilly for the first 6 or so miles...so I'm thinking that is what caused most of the pain that I'm having now...I haven't really done much hill training.
So, did you guys hurt this much after your first half marathon?
