My Story

Why do I run?

Here is MY story. Why I started running.

I've always been thin. Well, I did go through this really awkward fat phase my first year of HS, but other than that, I've always been really thin. I was 125 pounds as a senior in HS.

June 2000 - 125 pounds

When I got married in 2001 (at age 18), I weighed 130 pounds. I am 5'10". Yeah, I was teeny tiny. Probably a little too tiny. 6 months after getting married, we moved from my home state of NY, to TX.

July 2001 - 130 pounds

In the next few years, while I was in nursing school, and working the first year of my nursing career, I gained a little weight. I got up to 140 pounds. I still looked small, and was happy at that weight.

December 2005 - 140 pounds

Then, I got pregnant with my first son. I got up to 179 pounds while pregnant.

August 2006 - 179 pounds

After I had him, the weight just wouldn't go away (not that I was really trying that hard...). I stayed steadily at 165 pounds.

May 2007 - 165
I finally decided to do something about the weight, and lost some. I got back down to 150 pounds.

December 2007 - 150 pounds

Guess what? I got pregnant again! This time I got up to 187 pounds. I was put on strict bedrest for the last 4 1/2 weeks of my pregnancy. All I could do was watch tv and eat. So, I gained weight. I felt HUGE.

September 2008 - 187 pounds

After I had my second son, I didn't really try to lose the weight. I got down to 179. Yeah, only lost 8 pounds...that's so gross.

July 2010 - 179 pounds

My oldest son is now 5 1/2 and my youngest is 3 1/2. I've gotten my butt into gear and decided that it is *finally* time to do something about this weight. I want to live healthier lifestyle overall...for my children. I want to teach them about living healthy.

I decided that I wanted to become a runner in the summer of 2010. I started with a C25K program on my iphone in early September 2010.

My first 5k was scheduled for October 31, 2010. After completing that race, I wanted more. I set bigger goals for myself, and decided that I was going to run a half marathon.

October 2010 - 162 pounds

January 1, 2011. I started training for my first half marathon. I ran it on March 27, 2011.

Early March 2011 - 155 pounds
March 27, 2011 - My first Half Marathon - 153 pounds
To date, I have lost 28 pounds (give or take a couple, depending on the day), and currently weigh 151 pounds. I'm almost back at my 2nd son pre-pregnancy weight. 10 more on top of that, and I'll be a happy camper!

April 2011 - 151 pounds

My ultimate goal is to become healthy and fit. Whatever *weight* that ends up being, I'm ok with, as long as I feel good.
